128 new COVID cases reported in Monroe County

Rochester, New York – The Monroe County Department of Public Health reported 237 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday.

The county is averaging 187 new cases per day over the past week, with a seven-day rolling average positivity rate of 4%, per the latest update to the county’s COVID-19 dashboard on Sept. 15.

The case rate per 100,000 people over the last seven days was 153.42 through Sept. 14, according to the Centers for Disease Control, which it defines as high.

According to health officials, 65.8% (488,436 people) of Monroe County residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 456,448 residents, or 61.5% of the population, are fully vaccinated as of Sept. 13.

Monroe County’s COVID data tracker shows 193 COVID patients hospitalized and 60 in the ICU as of Sept. 13, which is the last day it was updated.

According to the CDC’s COVID-19 data tracker, 6.1% of Monroe County’s hospital beds were occupied by COVID patients and
13.39% of Monroe County’s ICU beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients as of Sept. 13.

Monroe County said as of Monday, Aug. 30, there were 11 fully vaccinated hospital patients, two of whom are in the ICU and one of whom is on a ventilator. In contrast, the county says there are 40 unvaccinated hospital patients, 10 of whom are in the ICU and nine of whom are on a ventilator. The county has not provided an update since Aug. 30.

To date, 1,379 people in Monroe County have died from COVID-19 since March 2020.

The Monroe County Department of Public Health resumed providing an update on new COVID-19 cases every weekday on July 27. The CDC’s numbers are updated daily, but lag by several days.
