Wi-Fi-equipped workforce shuttle meets Rochester residents where they are with one-on-one job help

Rochester, New York – In a move aimed at breaking down barriers to employment, Rochester Mayor Malik D. Evans has introduced a new mobile workforce development shuttle that brings job resources directly to the neighborhoods where they’re needed most.

Unveiled by the City’s Department of Recreation and Human Services, the newly outfitted shuttle is designed to reach residents who face transportation or childcare obstacles—issues that often stand in the way of finding or maintaining employment. Equipped with Wi-Fi, laptops, power outlets, a TV screen, and workstations, the shuttle is essentially a career center on wheels.

“This is about showing up and supporting Rochester residents where they are,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “We’re bringing job resources, career support, and opportunities directly to the neighborhoods that need it most. Whether someone is just starting out, changing career paths, or looking for a second chance, we can now come to you because we believe in your future.”

City Council Vice President LaShay Harris echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the practical impact this mobile approach could have on job seekers.

“Workforce development programs are integral to supporting our residents,” said City Council Vice President LaShay Harris. “This new mobile unit and the staff who operate it will improve access to employment and workforce development resources and opportunities for those with transportation barriers.”

The shuttle will offer a wide range of services: resume writing assistance, job search support, access to career information, and details about upcoming job fairs. Staff onboard the vehicle are trained in workforce development and will assist residents one-on-one.

Throughout the summer, the mobile unit will appear at the city’s ROC the Block Employment Fairs. Scheduled stops include:

  • June 11 at International Plaza (828 N. Clinton Ave.)
  • July 16 at the Rochester Public Market (280 N. Union St.)
  • August 20 at the Salvation Army (100 West Ave.)
  • September 24 at Parcel 5 (285 E. Main St.)

The shuttle will also be present at community events in May, such as:

  • May 17 at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park for the Action for a Better Community Celebration (12 p.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • May 23 at First Genesis Baptist Church (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

By placing opportunity on wheels, the City of Rochester is reshaping the way career services are delivered—bringing resources directly to doorsteps and reaffirming a commitment to inclusive economic growth.
