Toddler injured, two suspects arrested following shooting incident
Rochester, New York – A 3-year-old boy who was wounded while inside a parked car on Tuesday night is now in a critical but stable condition on Wednesday.
Just before 6 o’clock in the evening, police were called to North Clinton Avenue near Scrantom Street. for a shot-fired report. While the youngster was in his car seat, officers discovered he had been caught in the crossfire of a shooting.
The youngster was transported by private vehicle with critical injuries to Rochester General Hospital. After that, an ambulance took him to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he had surgery.
At a residence on Sullivan Street, police pursued and apprehended one of the shooting suspects. The 16-year-old teenager had a weapon and was outfitted in body armor. He was also thought to have fentanyl on him.
Assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a controlled narcotic are the charges brought against the 16-year-old. In lieu of $50,000 bail, he was arraigned and sent to the Monroe County Children’s Detention Center.
Travis Lewis, 34, was also being pursued by police down Sullivan Street when, according to police, he dropped a weapon and fled into a residence. Lewis finally ended up in police custody.
He faces accusations of assault, criminal weapon possession on two counts, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Lewis was previously detained in March 2021 after being hurt in a shooting on Dove Street. He was later found guilty of crimes involving assault and firearms.
Lewis allegedly had numerous prior convictions, according to the police. Lewis was on bail at the time of the shooting on Wednesday because his sentencing for the incident on Dove Street was pending.
“He has continued to be out on bail while his sentencing was pushed back, allegedly for medical reasons from his gunshot wound,” Smith said. “Although he was not sentenced he is looking for a potential sentence of years in prison.”
The shooting on Wednesday, according to the police, implicated more suspects. Calling 911 or Crime Stoppers at (423) 9300 is encouraged for anyone with information.
