Man detained for bomb threat at Geneva Public Safety Building
Geneva, New York – Following a bomb threat on Tuesday at the Geneva Public Safety Building, a man is now facing charges.
Around 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, the city’s police department and the court received two packages in the mail.
The items were being examined by security personnel when they noticed what seemed to be an explosive device.
According to authorities, one of the shipments contained a pineapple-shaped grenade and many vials filled with liquid.
All nearby businesses and residences were made aware of the danger, and the area was sealed off.
The weapon was a non-exploding inert grenade, and neither of the packages contained dangerous components, according to the Monroe County Bomb Squad, which was called in to investigate.
After an inquiry, it was discovered that Geneva resident Melvin Francis Lackey, 57, sent the items on Monday from a local post office.
After being detained, Lackey was accused of planting a fake bomb. For his arraignment, he was brought to the Ontario County Jail.
