Senator Cooney holds expungement event for marijuana charges

Rochester, New York — Saturday morning at Parcel 5 Senator Jeremy Cooney held a community-focused event.
He partnered with legal service providers for people to get free legal advice from experts. It was used as an opportunity for the community to ask questions and gain some legal insight.
The event was focused on the expungement of marijuana charges and the eligibility of some criminal convictions to be removed from an individual’s record.
“We legalized marijuana to bring racial, economic, and criminal justice to New Yorkers who were disproportionately impacted by the failed War on Drug laws. This community event is about bringing information about record expungement eligibility and free legal service access directly to the people of Rochester who need it most,” said Senator Cooney, co-chair of the Marijuana Task Force for the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus and co-sponsored legislation to legalize marijuana.
During the event, free COVID-19 vaccinations and flu shots were offered.
