Employees at Starbucks Eastview decide to unionize
Rochester, New York – Tuesday night, the Starbucks inside Victor’s Eastview Mall formally voted to unionize.
Voting in support of unionization was 8-0.
The Eastview kiosk initially submitted a petition for a union election at the start of September. Employees claim that since that filing, the corporation has made serious steps to break apart the union at the store.
“I think there’s some general resistance across all the stores,” said shift supervisor Kelwin Gleber. “We saw the firing of another organizer in Buffalo today as they continue their scorched-earth union-busting campaign across all these stores, but that’s not really going to stop us.”
Following the vote on Tuesday, Eastview Starbucks is the third in the Rochester region to unionize.
In April, the Starbucks shops on Monroe Avenue and Mount Hope Boulevard joined Starbucks Workers United.
