Following the horrific shooting in Georgia, local and state leaders discuss school safety
Rochester, New York – Following a mass shooting at a high school in Georgia that claimed the lives of two students and two teachers, the Rochester City School District started the new school year on Thursday. Education leaders at the local and state levels discussed safety precautions to keep campuses secure.
RCSD, in collaboration with neighborhood organizations, is constantly concerned with the emotional and physical well-being of its pupils, both within and outside of the classroom.
Turner stated, “The best that we can do is make sure safety measures ensure that we’re as safe as we possibly can be once students enter our school building. Violence can take place anywhere at any time.”
On Thursday, when the district opened five new schools, Betty Rose, the commissioner of education for New York State, paid a visit to Rochester. She discussed initiatives to stop school shootings.
The question of how to interpret and act upon the indicators we observe is one that keeps coming up. The gun control issue in New York State is another blessing, according to Rose.
