Former Irondequoit mall transforming into community center

Irondequoit, New York – Monday the Town of Irondequoit formally opened its new community center.
The complex is now known as Skyview on the Ridge.
“What a beautiful facility it is,” said John Perticone, acting Irondequoit supervisor. “One thing you’ll notice is it’s not like other fitness centers you’ll see. We wanted to keep it focused on the community – not just fitness and sports, but a place where residents young and old can come together as one Irondequoit, one community.”
The complex replaces the Irondequoit Senior Center on Pinegrove Avenue. The 41,339-sq.-ft. the community center is open seven days a week and will be run by the town’s recreation department. It includes a gymnasium, small fitness center, dance studio space, walking path, meeting rooms, and senior and teen lounges.
Skyview Park Apartments, a 157-unit senior-housing complex, has opened in the former Sears store. The old Macy’s is now home to Rochester Regional Health’s Isabella Graham Hart School of Nursing. And the space adjacent to the community center – the common area inside the old mall – is being renovated for residents to use for mall walking.
Individuals and families can purchase memberships for the fitness center. Senior residents may receive reimbursement for their membership from their health insurer. Over 3,000 residents have signed up for free access passes.
