Penn Yan, New York – On Wednesday a couple was ejected from their buggy after being rear-ended by a car.

According to Yates County Sheriff’s deputies, the incident happened on Route 14A, just outside of Penn Yan, around 2:30 p.m.

This crash comes one month after a fatal horse and buggy crash.

Ivan Horning, 80, and Ella Horning, 79, were traveling north on Route 14A when they were struck from behind by a Chevrolet Impala. A husband and wife were ejected.

“I was in the shop working, heard a bang, came out the door and looked down the hill here. There were some people here, yelling, ‘Call 911,” said Paul Schroeher. “The buggy was right over here. And it looks like it exploded. It was a man in the road. His wife was in the ditch.”

Both of them were transported to the hospital by helicopter and at this point their conditions are unknown.

The horse was taken to a nearby farm and is expected to survive.

The driver of the Impala was not injured and has not been charged.

The investigation is ongoing.
