March 11 to be declared COVID-19 Commemoration Day in Monroe County

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — March 11 will be declared COVID-19 Commemoration Day in Monroe County.
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren are marking the anniversary of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Rochester area to honor those who were lost and show gratitude toward healthcare and other essential workers.
Bello and Warren are asking Monroe County residents to shine a light at 8 p.m. on Thursday in memory and gratitude.
That can include turning on a porch light, lighting a candle in the window, placing a luminaria outside or just stepping outside with a flashlight or a cell phone.
Lights at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport and other buildings around Rochester will be lit in white at 8 p.m.
