RCSD students who live within walking distance to school will no longer have buses

ROCHESTER, New York — There will be no more buses for nearly 600 Rochester City School District students who live within walking distance to school. Those families in Schools 10, 17 and 22 were sent letters Monday.
This comes as a part of the plan the district is working on to resolve the district-wide bus driver shortage, which is still down to around 100 drivers.
The first day of school is delayed, having students return to the classroom Thursday.
According to Superintendent Leslie Myers-Small, school leaders are working to consolidate bus routes and work out a contract with RTS to temporarily get kids to school.
Any student without a ride to school Thursday is expected to work remotely, the district says.
Four Rochester R-centers are offering expanded hours to support families impacted by the delayed school opening this week.
The following locations will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.:
• Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave., 14609
• Adams St. R-Center, 85 Adams St., 14608
• Trenton & Pamela Jackson R-Center (Clinton-Baden), 485 N. Clinton Ave., 14605
• Edgerton R-Center, 41 Backus St., 14608
All-City R-Centers will return to after-school hours on Thursday, September 9 when all RCSD schools will be open. More information about City R-Centers can be found at www.cityofrochester.gov/rcenters.
