Albany, New York – According to the State Police,  there will be increased patrols on the road this holiday weekend, in addition to sobriety checkpoints.

Police are reminding drivers to have a happy – and safe – Fourth of July.

According to police reports, more than 9,200 tickets were issued during the Fourth of July weekend last year, with close to 200 DWI arrests.

Troopers remind citizens, if they’re drinking, to have a plan in advance and designate a sober driver. If you’ve been drinking, call a friend, family member, or a taxi, or use public transportation.
