The Rochester Board of Education voted to move the start of class to September 9

Rochester, New York – Sunday night The Rochester Board of Education met online to discuss the RCSD’s transportation crisis.

The board voted to move the start of class to Thursday, September 9, and ultimately decided to finalize plans in another online session scheduled Monday at 6 p.m.

Questions still remain unanswered when it comes to how thousands of RCSD students will get to school, despite more than two hours in emergency session,

“They need a plan that is supported by the data. Absolutely, positively, must have a plan by Monday and that plan has to be consistent with the boards’ desire, which is to have students in their seats,” said RCSD board president Van White.

More than 3,600 students are said to be unaccounted for over the lack of bus drivers, between the three bus companies RCSD contracts with.

Since Friday, district leaders announced RCSD is now short by 98 bus drivers.

White called on superintendent Lesli Myers-Small to present a plan as soon as possible. “You have to have a plan. It may be vulnerable to add additional questions, but you have to. I’m stating this so the community understands, but you have to understand our expectations,” said White.
