Drug addict who abused and beat to death her partner’s 4-year-old son sentenced to more than 7 decades behind bars
People should always keep their eyes open and be careful with whom they enter into a relationship or marriage, because sometimes their chosen ones, no matter how innocent they look on the outside, can be very evil on the inside.
Especially, they should be careful before allowing the “love of their lives” to get close to their family members, because in some cases they hurt them or, worse, kill them.
Such an incident, where a man who thought that he found the love of his life and without knowing her past, allowed her to get close to his sons, ended up mourning one of them.
The 35-year-old drug addict, Lesli J., will spend seven and a half decades in prison after killing her boyfriend’s 4-year-old son.
Lesli was living in an Illinois home along with her boyfriend, Jeremy T., his two sons, one 7-year-old and the 4-year-old Tate T., and her 2-year-old son.
One morning, Tate’s 7-year-old brother went to school, and only one hour later Lesli started beating Tate, causing him multiple injuries. Allegedly Tate fell unconscious to the ground and she called 911 claiming the boy has slipped and fell.
Responding officers found the boy unresponsive and he was immediately transferred to a hospital. Two days later, doctors said his brain was dead and took him off life support devices.
An autopsy was performed on Tate’s body which showed he had over 260 bruises, contusion and abrasions.
One day after Tate was taken to hospital, Lesli tested positive for high levels of methamphetamine.
Detectives considered Lesli responsible for Tate’s injuries because they could not believe that such injuries could be sustained from a single fall.
She was charged with first-degree murder.
At the hearing, instead of speaking in court she only gave a letter to the judge claiming her innocence.
According to court records, Lesli was abusing Tate for a long time and even threatened him in several occasions that she would stop giving him food if he says anything to his father.
At the hearing, Jeremy said he wasn’t aware that Lesli was abusing his son while he was at work.
Prosecutors portrayed Lesli as manipulative, dishonest, untrustworthy, parasitic, cold, self-centered and cruel drug abuser.
The judge in his closing remarks said that Lesli’s lack of remorse did not help her at all and found her guilty of first-degree murder. She was sentenced to 75 years in prison.
Although the father of the boy, Jeremy, said he was satisfied with the sentence that Lesli has received, his heart is tearing apart given the fact he will never hear his son saying “I love you dad” again, but is also sure that he is watching him from the heaven.
He also added that his son is in better place now where no one can cause him any more pain.
