Monroe County Executive Adam Bello unveiled his proposed budget for next year
Monroe County, New York – Adam Bello, Monroe County Executive, showed up his proposed budget for next year.
Bello’s new proposal calls for $1.28 billion in spending, an increase of 3.4 percent over this year’s budget, but two percentage points below the national rate of inflation.
It increases spending for the public safety department, the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, and Monroe County Public Defender’s Office. It also includes money to expand the Improving Addiction Coordination Team or IMPACT into a 24/7 service to battle the opioid epidemic.
The proposed budget also includes $12 million to upgrade Frontier Field so it meets new Major League Baseball stadium guidelines.
“Make no mistake – the Red Wings are going to stay in Rochester. Monroe county is not going to lose the Red Wings because of MLB stadium requirements. We are not going to do that. The Red Wings have called Monroe County home for 144 years and they’ve put hundreds if not thousands of people to work each year. They are part of our upbringing here. Growing up in Rochester, going to baseball games – it’s a story everybody has. We’re going to keep the Red Wings here.”
The property tax rate is cut by the proposal and raises the minimum wage for county workers to $15 an hour.
Bello’s proposal will be considered at Tuesday night’s county legislature hearing.
